When looking at window placement for your building, be aware of the consequences of west elevation glazing. The intense Montana sun in summer can bring unwanted heat and glare into your design. If you just use glazing on the west façade, consider these strategies:
- Eliminate non-essential west glazing.
- Select a low SHGC glazing to minimize west elevation heat gains.
- Consider an operable louver or blind system, or use a translucent screen cloth, to reduce the glare.
